Today…
I visited the CEA Incubator at Kelvin Grove and met with one of the ladies there who is hopefully going to help me produce my handbag samples! It’s pretty exciting, I’m very happy with my materials - - - they have this sort of burnished gold/pink tones and I think they go very well with my theme.
Next up I visited Paddington Hardware in order to find a finish for my heels - basically my choices are to go natural (beeswax or shellac) which will darken the wood and needs to be re-applied quite frequently to stop stains… OR I can use a polyurethane (a by product of the petroleum industry) in which case I will be able to find a matte, clear product that will last for years. It’s a tough decision!
Lastly I picked up my opals which have been set in silver and are ready to be made into shoes. These particular opals are boulder opals from Western Qld (I have forgotten the name of the town but I think it might have been Jundah). I’m writing a piece on the main opal mining fields around Qld for my website.. yay.
